The DPRG Lab

The DPRG Lab (aka, warehouse, clubhouse, world headquarters building, etc.) is where the local robot builders hang out every Tuesday night from about 6pm to midnight. Feel free to join us. You can see photos in the DPRG gallery and you'll find more information on meeting times including maps and directions on our meetings page.

We now have a couple of webcams set up so you can join in the fun without leaving home. Bandwidth to support the video feeds has been graciously provided by David P. Anderson and the SMU Department of Geological Sciences.

Important Note: The webcam video stream is provided as a multi-part JPEG steam. Some browsers are not yet capable of handling this type of data; MS IE in particular. If the image does not seem to be updating, you can try one of the links below or you might consider upgrading to a standards compliant browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Mozilla SeaMonkey. You may also want to use the slower links if you are on a dialup or have limited bandwidth.

Webcam 1: Robot Test Area

Close up of the test courses where the robots are tested.

Steaming video - live video for the best view of the action.

60 Frames per minute - For legacy browsers (requires JavaScript).

30 Frames per minute - For legacy browsers or limited bandwidth (requires JavaScript).

15 Frames per minute - For very limited bandwidth (requires JavaScript).

Webcam 2: Common Area

The main area of the lab includes the workshop and a common area where heated debates on robot construction and conspiracy theories occur.

Want to chat while you watch?

If watching us isn't enough, you can join in and chat with us and other viewers using Internet Relay Chat. Any chat client that talks standard IRC protocol will work. If you already have a standard chat client installed and your browser is configured to use it, you can join by just clicking the link below:

irc://us.chatjunkies.org:6667/#DPRGLive

If the above link doesn't work for you, try entering the following settings into your IRC chat client:

IRC Server hostname: us.chatjunkies.org
IRC Server port: 6667
IRC Group name: #DPRGLive

Don't have a chat client already? Here are few you can try. Most of these are Free Software (free as in free speech):

All Operating Systems (Linux/Unix/Mac/Windows)

Linux (and most Unix-like systems)

  • GAIM - talks most chat protocols including IRC, AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, Jabber
  • X-Chat - should work on anything that runs X
  • sirc - a Perl-based CLI IRC client
  • ircII - the classic Unix CLI IRC client

Windows-only

  • Your best bet is ChatZilla or Bitch-X if freedom is a concern
  • Hydra - Free as in free beer but not as in free speech.
  • mirc - Shareware: $20, Not Free as in speech or beer.
