November 1986 Minutes

The November meeting was held in the Science Place, adjacent to the State Fair Grounds. Along with preparing for our demonstration of the "Frankenbot" play, we discussed the possibility of a robotic lawn mower and the problems associated with such a device; mainly, the positioning of the mower using infrared lights, lasers, etc. Since the noise level (both sound, and electrical) is so high, this is the hardest part to design.

The Frankenbot demonstration the following weekend went very well. We drew crowds to each performance by giving out handouts, and displaying a HERO I in the hallway that gave a continous talk until the show began. After each performance, we had an excellent demo of the HERO 2000 and opened the floor to questions. Many people wanted to know what a robot cost and what it could do. Those of us involved had a lot of fun.

October 1986 Minutes

Walter Bryant talked about the state of the club:

We should be proud of ourselves! In less than 3 years we have developed into the largest club in the nation dedicated to personal robotics. We have:

Attracted an ever growing list of club members with a very wide range of technical capacities and interests;
Held club meetings and user labs once a month. The meetings have had a long list of impressive speakers and technical discussions;
Held public club demonstrations, covered by newspapers, radio, and television;
Demonstrated an impressive list of unique robot programs and peripheral equipment created by the club rank and file;
A club newsletter.

What the club's priorities are:

To have fun with personal robotics. To share the fun with all interested parties, and to learn more about the explosive new field of personal robotics!!
To improve our organization. Increase participation and communications bewteen all of th club members, to develop a team spirit.
Develop an active computer listing of what the individual club members are working on and would like us to pursue as a group.
Improve our newsletter with more participation from all club members. This will give us the ability to share our accomplishments with people all over the nation.
A club treasurey -- Note: we now have an official club banking account with an impressive balance.
To expand our "Club Computer Bulletin Board" by placing on it all club members' "robot programs", newsletters, current events, etc.

We are now trying to update our mailing list for the Robot Companion Newsletter. If you are a current, paid-up member of the DPRG or contact us, we will include you in the updated list. Contact "Bud" at Heathkit (214) 327-xxxx.
