I've put several wireless cameras in mobile robots. Supercircuits is the
expensive way to go (vs Frys for example) but some of their stuff is pretty
good. You pay for what you get in the under hundred dollar range, but you
don't necessarily get all that you pay for with the really expensive units.
The issues with cheap transmitter units are interference, resetting during a
bump, sensitivity to voltage fluctuation and general transmission quality.
If you have to go with a relatively inexpensive transmitter/receiver combo
be sure to shock mount it and provide more than enough battery power or a
dedicated pack. Always check operation in the space of the performance
before you actually 'go live' to ferret out possible sources of
interference. Try to have sound systems, wireless mics, etc. operating
during the test.
