Following Course

David,

Question: Are the "Acute Angle", "Hair Pin Curves", and "Gate" elements 24 x
24 inches?

Answer: Acute Angle = 24x24, Gate = 24x12, Hair Pin Curves were dropped
partially due to their size.

They would have been greater than 24x24.

Question: What are your suggestions about how to create stain values of 20%,
40%, 60%, 80% of black?

Answer: The easiest way to create stain values would be to create your test
course in Inkscape and print it out.
Inkscape is free and has a gray level palette broken out in
10% steps. I would then take

the test course sheets and glue them to poster paper.
Another way would be mix white paint into

black paint using a gray level scale to match values. The
actual course is being printed by a sponsor for
DPRG on a wide bed printer. The files used for the print job
were originally generated in Inkscape.

Doug P.

Subject: ADDITIONAL: Questions about Roborama 2011b Challenge Level Line
Following Course

Hi Doug

Thanks for the information about the "Acute Angle" elements being in the
Roborama 2011b competition.

The Challenge level line following rules says that the Element size is
between 12 x 12 inches and 24 x 24 inches.

Also the "Hair Pin Curves" elements have multiple 5 inch radius curves.

It looks like the "Acute Angle", "Hair Pin Curves", and "Gate" elements
would need to be 24 x 24 inches to allow

their entry/exit lines to align with the other Junior and Senior Level 12 x
12 inch elements.

Question: Are the "Acute Angle", "Hair Pin Curves", and "Gate" elements 24 x
24 inches?

The Condition Changes element rules says: "Stains can have four values: 20%,
40%, 60%, 80% of black."

Question: What are your suggestions about how to create stain values of 20%,
40%, 60%, 80% of black?

I appreciate your help understanding what to expect the Roborama 2011b line
following courses to look like

and how to create realistic test cases for checking out our robots.

Thanks

Dave

David,

The Roborama 2011b Challenge level line following course does have
"Acute Angle" elements. The 2011b competition has no "Hair Pin Curves"
elements (multiple 5 inch radius of curvature curves), but they could be
included in the future competitions.

Doug P.

Copying Doug Paradis, who is organizing Line Following. I believe the Acute
Angle is NOT part of Roborama 2011b.

Subject: Question about Roborama 2011b Challenge Level Line Following Course

Hi Paul

The Roborama 2011b Challenge Level Line Following rules says: "Hair Pin
Curves are not part of the Roborama 2011b competition."

But nothing is said about the "Acute Angle", which is more extreme than the
"Hair Pin Curves", being excluded from the Roborama 2011b competition.

Question: Will the Acute Angle be part of the Roborama 2011b Challenge Level
Line Following competition?

I look forward to your clarifying this issue.

Thanks

Dave Ackley
