ROS & Robots At Scale – Microsoft Edge Robotics – DPRG Virtual Monthly Meeting, July 11th, 2020

In Coordination with Hackster DFW

Special guest speaker Lou Amadio is a Principal Software Development Lead at Microsoft corporation in the Core Operating Systems group focusing on Robotics and autonomous systems.

Lou is leading the effort to enable ROS on Windows and to expand Microsoft’s ROS1 and ROS2 portfolio. Additionally, he and his team are working with customers to deploy ROS on Windows and ROS with Azure Cloud Services and to expand the ecosystem, while improving reliability and stability through a DevOps for Robotics initiative.

Lou will walk through a cool presentation touching on lots of interesting areas, and has asked if we can make this an interactive session. So let’s start at the intersection of Robots and Microsoft, and find some good branches to explore!

• ROS at Microsoft
• DevOps for Robotics
• Azure Kinect DK ROS node
• Onnx Runtime ROS Node
• Azure IoT Hub ROS Node
• Visual Studio Code for ROS
• Mixed Reality Toolkit ROS module

Part 1 – Robot Mower Telemetry Component Tests

DPRG member, Ray Casler, will present about testing of hc-12 and lora32u4 modules., with intent to achieve the following goals;

• Improve platform control beyond an old airplane radio controller
• Have a two-way link for telemetry
• Send digital values instead of rc pulses
• Mow my lawn from my office using a radio and fpv

Part 2 – Open Web-Cam Show & Tell

Session for open-mic show & tell, and ‘stump the club’.

So fire up your web camera, and show off your latest project! Or if you’re stuck on something – throw a question to the club – let’s see if we can get you good answers.
